OK, maybe it was tad cold on the beach this night for that to be any fun, but who cares? This show blows up, as WT so aptly pointed out yesterday. If you have yet to hear this gem, do yourself a favor and at least check out the pre-drums portion of Set 2. Pure, unadulterated happy time. Phil whips out a bomb for the Other One intro that affected the tides in the region for at least 3 years after the show.

Is there any difference between 'your' Charlie Miller

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1979-10-27.sbd.miller.98950.sbeok.flac16

and elbow's Charlie Miller:

http://www.archive.org/details/gd79-10-27.sbd.miller.29490.sbeok.flacf

that's worth bothering about? Interested grateful nerds might conceivably want to know.

Do what you will. Your mere question to the assembled masses about what your next step should be infers that you mistakenly believe we may actually give a damn about what you do or do not do.

Fine, if I must care, at least for the moment, I recommend a three month hiatus on Skellig Michael to ponder your place in the grand scheme of things. And you can even bring a sheep.

Still get goosebumps just thinking of Kimock and Kaukonen doing that on Phil's Love Will See You Through album. One of the all time listening experiences - you never forget your first time.

Hey Dire I've been listening to this all day. Apart from some irritating chatter in the quiet moments it is a thing of beauty. If you're not familiar with it give it a go. http://www.archive.org/details/SKB2009-10-24.flac16

I was interested enough to give this a listen, Cole's Law being one of my any where, any time, favourite tunes, but I had to stop. Not only because I have a low tolerance for idiots yelling awwwrriiigghtttt!!! in the quiet moments, but also because the extra cheese provided by Melvin Seals organ rendered the whole thing pretty indigestible. I have tried more than once to like the Crazy Engine but Seals just makes it impossible for me. Compare and contrast with Robert Walter on keys on this version:

Yeah, it's noticably better. Dire got me started with a few Kimock recommendations a while back, I think I need to spend a bit more time on him. Got any suggestions, Rob ?

Dire helped me out on my early explorations of Kimock too, so I've tried to avoid what I think he may have already suggested to you. Apologies to him and to you if I'm repeating what you already know:

Kimock plays Halloween (first show acoustic, second electric):

I was hearing Kimock or Greene are Sheep Herders. Mann, could imagine herding sheep to "Crazy Engine" or "Mexican Lady" ? You wouldn't have to worry about wool for your winter sweater. Just picture a Smoking Crater or yourself turning butter.

"DID ICE CREAM ?"

Don't miss the "make-up" Franklin's on the 28th, either. Back-to-back monster Franklins is pretty unusual after 1976.

I like this guys review of the AUD version:

"It was such powerful low frequency that my balls actually hurt after experiencing it."

full review here:
Reviewer: brokencompass - [4.0 out of 5 stars] - September 16, 2005
Subject: Phil
I was front row at this show. Horribly smashed against the front barrier. Like a lot of '79 shows there are some great moments. The Dancin' was great and the Franklin's is very energetic. but the highlight undoubtedly is the beginning of The Other One, at the 1:30 mark Phil absolutely obliterates the room. His signature run was so loud and powerful the crowd was literally blown back 2 feet (the only breathing room we had all night). It was such powerful low frequency that my balls actually hurt after experiencing it.

Viva Phil!! I woulda given 5 stars but those are reserved fot the Louisvile '74's and Fillmore '70's

Had I known that this thread would have prompted a sore balls reference, I most assuradely reconsidered.

Be that as it may, having blasted this beast on a 500 watt system through some Boston Acoustic towers (not mine, unfortunately), I must concur that it is more than capable of sterilizing anyone with a 200 yard radius.

Don't worry, as Rob pointed out, most of the married Forumites can't either!

[jk of course! Dire is too recently wed to have given up the items in question, or I guess it's that he's more willing to let her "control" them without squabbling? Or is it "shrieking"?]

He already told us he is the one who like to 'nag'

This leads me to believe that Dire's better half 'wears the pants'

Going along these lines I don't think Dire needs to worry about sub sonic blasts from Phil's Bass

Please note that Miss D has NEVER once held it against me that I am balding (well, okay, she did sorta mention it), soft (hmmm, she might have mentioned "hard bodies"), nor aging and increasing in stupidity on a daily basis...
